Capella University TEACH Grant Information
What is the TEACH Grant?
The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant is offered to students who intend to teach in a high-need field at a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families.
Which Capella programs are eligible?
- Master of Science (MS) in Education, Leadership in Educational Administration specialization
- Master of Science (MS) in Education, Reading and Literacy specialization
- Master of Science (MS) in Education, Special Education Teaching specialization
- Master of Science (MS) in Education, English Language Learning and Teaching specialization
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Meet Capella University admission requirements and be enrolled in course work or plan to complete course work toward a career in a high-need subject area
- Meet academic standards in one of the following ways:
- Score above the 75th percentile on one battery of an admissions test, such as the ACT, SAT, or GRE. (Fax test score information to Capella's Office of Financial Aid at 612.977.5060) OR
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 in your academic program OR
- Be a current or retired teacher (documentation from your principal or superintendent can be faxed to Capella University's Office of Financial Aid at 612.977.5060)
- Complete a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve each year prior to disbursement
- Complete TEACH Grant Entrance Counseling each year prior to disbursement
- Complete the Capella Opt-in form each year prior to disbursement
TEACH Grant Award Amounts
The TEACH Grant is renewable each aid year (as long as you continue to meet eligibility requirements) for a benefit of up to $4,000 per financial aid year (up to $8,000 in aggregate for graduate learners).
Required Documentation
- Agreement to Serve (ATS): Complete annually on the U.S. Department of Education website with the Capella school code. The confirmation will be sent to Capella.
- TEACH Grant Entrance Counseling: Complete annually on the Department of Education website and confirmation will be sent to Capella.
- Complete the Capella Opt-in form. This will become available on the Student Center once the Agreement to Serve and/or Entrance Counseling have been received
- First term of enrollment: You must submit one of the following:
- Official undergraduate transcript with a GPA of 3.25 or higher
- Official graduate transcript with a GPA of 3.25 or higher, with credits that transfer into your Capella program
- An admissions test with a score above the 75th percentile, such as ACT, SAT, or GRE
- A letter indicating you are a current or retired teacher (documentation from your principal or superintendent can be faxed to Capella's Office of Financial Aid at 612.977.5060)
- Subsequent terms: You must maintain a Capella GPA of 3.25 or higher, or you may submit one of the following documents:
- An admissions test with a score above the 75th percentile, such as ACT, SAT, or GRE.
- A letter indicating you are a current or retired teacher (form available on iGuide which should be signed by your principal or superintendent, and can be faxed to 612-977-5060).
