Podcast Description: Smarthinking is a web-based opportunity to receive feedback on your writing or to attend a tutoring session in subject areas, such as basic and advanced statistics.
Transcript: The following presentation is a production of Capella University and is not intended for commercial use.
Welcome to another topic in a series of podcasts regarding aspects of the comprehensive exam and dissertation process.
At some point in your doctoral journey, you may wish to receive feedback on your writing or receive live, on-demand tutoring for statistics. Capella University has procured the services of Smarthinking, an e-tutoring service that supports learner achievement. Smarthinking is offered free of charge to all Capella University learners. It is a tutoring service that helps learners guide their own growth with academic writing and tutoring in subject areas, such as basic and advanced statistics.
But if you are a comprehensive exam writer, you are prohibited from using this service. The comprehensive examination policy states you are not to seek outside help, advice, proofreading or editing help.
Once you are in dissertation, however, you can enjoy the benefit of receiving feedback on your writing from trained tutors. Whether you are a good writer or someone who struggles with grammar, usage, or mechanics, Smarthinking staff will offer valuable feedback to improve your writing and understanding of the writing process. Submit part of a dissertation chapter for review and receive feedback and guidance on what you’ve written! It will serve you well to take advantage of a professional who is trained in reviewing academic papers.
This and additional information can be found on iGuide. You can schedule live on-demand tutoring in basic and advanced statistics. For more information on how to schedule a tutoring appointment, visit iGuide.
You can access Smarthinking services by setting up an account from the link on the Capella University Writing Center home page. To create an account, visit www.capellawritingcenter.org. The first link under “resources” on that page is called “tutoring.” The tutoring link takes you through the process of setting up an account. Once the account is established, you can submit your writing for review or learn how to schedule a live, on-demand tutoring session.
When registering with Smarthinking, you will be given 20 hours of tutoring time with Smarthinking e-instructors. Once you’ve used those 20 hours, the University will recharge the account with an additional 20 hours.
Writers—no matter what their skill level—can benefit from sharing their work with others and receiving feedback. We encourage all dissertation writers to use Smarthinking tutoring services.
Remember, you bring unique circumstances to your doctoral journey. Follow-up with your doctoral advisor for clarification and additional information about the dissertation process.
