Capella’s SOPHIA to Feature Mayo Clinic Tutorials

February 7, 2013

Ever been curious about what happens when you have your gallbladder removed? Look no further – the free social education platform SOPHIA (a member of the Capella family) – is offering tutorials developed by Mayo Clinic surgeon and professor, David R. Farley, M.D, at no cost.

The Mayo Clinic tutorials created by Farley will be organized into learning pathways, which will feature 46 short-form tutorials also used to prepare Mayo Clinic medical students to perform the procedures. The lessons will be sequenced to align with the surgical process. Here’s Katharine Grayson’s write up in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

I doubt I will be performing a gallbladder removal anytime soon, but this innovative way to reach students is another example of how SOPHIA is able to connect top experts with teachers and students in a variety of fields. Or for those like me, who are simply curious about learning something new.

Take a look at the site, learn about something of interest, and share your thoughts with me.
