An issue of highest (educational) importance

We’ve talked a lot on this blog about competency-based learning and the Higher Learning Commission’s approval of Capella University’s first two programs under a “direct assessment” model. Here’s an excellent piece from Capella’s President Scott Kinney in today’s USA Today on the potential of competency-based learning.

Higher ed is at a moment where we could reshape the way we deliver education. Measuring time spent is not the same thing as measuring the quality and relevance of learning – with a competency-based approach, we can improve both completion and affordability.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
