Textbook Time

If you haven’t ordered your textbooks yet, now is the time to do it. Required textbooks are not available from the Capella Library, but our friends at the bookstore are ready and willing to assist you.

If you don’t know which books you need, you can find out by going to the bookstore website and searching for your course number. If the bookstore lists a resource as required for your course, then you must either purchase it or find some other option to obtain it.

Optional Books are not necessarily in the library, but there are several ways you may be able to obtain them, aside from purchasing:

1. Search Journal and Book Locator by the book title to see if we have the full text in the library. Here are the directions for using Journal and Book Locator.

2. If the full text of an optional book is NOT available through the library, you may go to the Interlibrary Loan request page, fill out a form and we will request the item for you from another library. Books that are required for any course may not be requested through interlibrary loan. Please note: Books take 7-10 business days to arrive.

3. Search Worldcat.org to see if a local library has it. Even if a local library looks like it has your book(s), make sure to contact the library before traveling there.

If your particular question about textbooks wasn’t answered here, you can contact the main Capella line: 1-888-227-3552 for help.

When I took the live guided tour a few days ago Brittany stated that we can get the first 3 weeks of book materials through Capella-I ordered all of my required books but have not received the one I need to read for Unit 1 assignment. How do I get this?

Thanks

I was also under the impression that books that are needed in our courses would be available for a certain amount of time. I have ordered my books, but haven’t received them yet, and I need to do an assignment that is due tomorrow. Please advise.

Thanks,
Yuri

Hi Yuri,

Only first courses may include the first few chapters of the textbook in the courseroom to help get brand new learners on track. Once you move beyond the first course, you need to purchase required textbooks from the Capella Bookstore prior to the start of the quarter. If you need to check on the status of your books, you can contact the Capella Bookstore toll-free by phone at 1-800-325-3252.

Please contact your instructor to work out how you can complete your coursework until you receive your required texts.

Regards,
Kim
