My Academic Journey

by Christine Benson - MS Public Safety, Emergency Management with Public Administration

Hello fellow learners,

Let me begin by saying the professors here are great! They, as well as the rest of the staff here, are committed to helping you succeed. I could not have accomplished all that I have without all of the wonderful professors, staff, and classmates that I have had the opportunity to interact with.

My journey for a Masters’ degree began two years ago. I have changed programs and concentrations since then and am happy to be completing my degree in Fall 2013. The degree in Emergency Management will enable me to better serve my community as well as surrounding communities by ensuring they are prepared as possible.

I have had a wonderful experience here at Capella and I encourage others to attend this fine academic institution. The knowledge learned here will prepare and guide you in your future endeavors. My professors and my classmates have given me unique perspectives and have greatly contributed to my expanding knowledge. While the journey has been challenging, I would not have it any other way!

I am planning on applying to the local community college as an adjunct professor once I receive my degree. I would like to pass my knowledge along to others so they can be encouraged to pursue their degrees and dreams. I know my quest for knowledge will not end with my masters’ degree. Eventually I hope to pursue the PhD. in Emergency Management so I am even better equipped to help my community and those surrounding it.
