How many tickets will I receive for Saturday's ceremony?
Where do I pick them up?
The Commencement Ceremony is a ticketed event, offering general seating.
Each registered learner receives up to four tickets to their Commencement ceremony. Tickets are distributed when you check in, at the registration desk. Please check the schedule for registration desk hours and location.
General seating for the commencement ceremony begins 30 minutes prior to the ceremony start. Ticketed guests should plan to be seated at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the Commencement ceremony or your seat is not guaranteed. Late seating is at the discretion of the Ushers.
Guests requiring special services such as disability seating, are asked to arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the ceremony start time. Please prearrange special seating by contacting Commencement@Capella.edu, subject line: Special Services, Commencement
There will be an overflow seating area providing live video feed to the event.
What should I wear to commencement?
We recommend guests wear apparel suitable an “afternoon wedding.” Verify the average temperature of the location of the ceremony to ensure you are dressing appropriately.
Graduates should plan to wear light clothing under their Regalia. Please give your phone, purse and other personal belongings to a family member to hold during the ceremony.
Do I receive my official diploma at the ceremony?
Commencement participants will not receive their diplomas at the commencement ceremony. Since learners graduate year-round, we mail diplomas with degree conferred transcripts. If you have already graduated and received your diploma in the mail, and are participating in commencement, you do not need to bring it to the ceremony.
When does doctoral hooding take place?
Doctoral Hooding will take place during the Commencement ceremony. Candidates will be hooded by representatives from University Academic Leadership.
Will there be a photographer?
There will be a photographer taking photos as each graduate crosses the stage. If attending a commencement ceremony, you will receive order information via e-mail after the ceremony. Don't forget your camera so you can capture all the other moments during the special events!
How do I know when I am eligible to participate in commencement?
Degree learners are eligible to attend commencement if they have been approved to graduate or awarded their degree. You will receive an invitation via e-mail when you become eligible to attend a commencement ceremony.

Announce your accomplishment
If you are interested in spreading the word about your graduation from Capella, complete our news release template. All you need to do is fill in the blanks with the specifics on your degree, and you can email or mail it to your local newspapers, business publications, workplace publication, or other media.
