Friday and Saturday ceremony information and protocols
Remember your Regalia!
In order to walk at Commencement you will need your regalia, so please don’t forget to bring it with you to Orchestra Hall.
Attire
Friday receptions, hooding ceremonies, and celebration event:
Learners participating in the hooding ceremonies: We recommend wearing light weight clothing beneath Regalia. The attire is dressy.
Guests: We recommend wearing attire that you would choose for a “wedding” or other social occasion.
Saturday commencement ceremony:
Guests: Attire for the commencement ceremony follows the guidelines above.
Learners should wear light weight clothing beneath Regalia.
Temperatures in Minneapolis during August range from low 70s to mid 80s. Please remember to pack an umbrella, in the event of rain on commencement day.
Photography
There will be a photographer taking your photo at commencement. You will receive optional photo order information from Chappell Photography via email after the event.
Don’t forget to bring your camera and video camera to capture the experience. We encourage you to share your videos and photographs on Web sites like YouTube (www.youtube.com), Flickr (www.flickr.com), and Capella’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com), so that others can get a feel for what the Capella experience is like. It’s simple to do, and we’ve created a Guide to YouTube and Flickr that explains how. Once you’ve posted your photos and videos, please send us an email with the URL so we can put them on Capella Commons, our social networking portal.
Seating for family and friends
Each Commencement Learner will receive 4 guest tickets at check-in. If you require additional tickets, please notify our staff at check-in. Additional tickets are available on a first-come basis 1 hour prior to the ceremony at the registration area.
Diplomas are mailed, not handed to you at commencement
When you walk across the stage, the diploma that you receive will have a placeholder in it, not your actual diploma. Because Capella learners graduate throughout the year, we mail diplomas with degree-conferred transcripts. If you have already graduated and received your diploma in the mail, you do not need to bring it to the ceremony.
Copies of the commencement DVD
A DVD of the commencement ceremony will be available through the Capella University online store (www.capellastore.com) Allow 4–6 weeks for delivery.
Please check the FAQ section for additional information.
