It is crucial to be prepared for the comprehensive and dissertation teleconference calls. You must clearly understand that your words, your preparation, your questions and your answers will be closely scrutinized by mentor and committee. During these final two phases of your doctoral program, the members of your committee will begin to view you as a colleague, and will expect you to conduct yourself as one. While no one expects perfection, the bar has certainly been raised; take heart however in knowing that you are well prepared for these challenging events, and you would not be at this stage of your education if you were not ready for it.

We have already emphasized the importance of preparation, and this will certainly be reflected in your words and arguments. The words you choose, your tone, style, flow and your overall vocal confidence allows your committee to better understand your thinking, cognitive style, and preparation for the call.
