Most scholarly, peer-reviewed articles have similar organization. Use the headings to focus on the parts of the article you need for your assignment or paper.
Most articles include the following:
- Date Published: The date when the article was published.
- Article Title: The title of the article.
- Author(s) and Author Affiliation: The author or authors of the article, and the affiliation of the author or authors.
- Abstract: Brief, comprehensive summary of the article. Use to determine if article is relevant to your topic.
- Introduction & Background: States the reason for the research, background about the issue being studied and review the literature on the topic.
- Methodology: Describes the population being studied, the methods used to gather the data, and the methods used to analyze the data.
- Results: Summarizes the results and findings using text, tables, charts and graphs.
- Discussion: Analyzes results, explains the significance and discusses further research.
- Reference: List of the works cited and used to support the research.
