Every member of Capella's Nursing faculty has a doctoral degree, combined with leadership experience and a background in frontline nursing. Our MHA, DHA, and PhD health care faculty all have doctoral degrees, and many members have served as leaders of regional, national and international organizations including major hospitals, health care and legal nurse consulting, care providers, pharmaceutical companies, public health care organizations, and Veterans Administration.

John Darland PsyD, MPP
Dr. John Darland serves as the interim dean for the School of Public Service Leadership and previously served as the faculty chair for the public administration and nonprofit management and leadership program areas. Dr. Darland, who has worked at the university since 2002, has also served as faculty chair for the Learner Success and Faculty Engagement area in the School of Public Service Leadership, which is responsible for the First Course experience and faculty coaching. Before joining Capella, he worked as a clinical psychologist in a variety of mental health settings, as well as a mental health policy analyst for the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Dr. Darland holds a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University and an MPP in Public and Nonprofit Management from the University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.
Christy Davidson DNP, RNC–OB
Director of Nursing
Christy Davidson has been a nursing professional for nearly 20 years beginning as a staff nurse in Labor and Delivery, then growing in leadership as a Women’s Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, nurse manager of a Pediatric/Medical Surgical Unit, and as nursing faculty. Christy received her BSN and MSN from the University of Mobile, in Mobile, Alabama. She received her DNP from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. After several years as a core nursing faculty member, Christy is currently the Director of Nursing at Capella. Christy holds several scholarly presentations to her credit, is a member of STTI (Sigma Theta Tau International), was a 2012 DAISY Faculty Award winner, and currently serves as a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) site evaluator.
