Admission Requirements

Applicants must provide the following information for admission to Capella programs and specializations.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting agency or an internationally recognized institution.
  • Your official bachelor’s transcripts, minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • 2 letters of recommendation completed by professionals who can assess your aptitude for graduate education in psychology.
  • An admissions writing sample.
  • Your résumé or curriculum vitae (CV).
  • A $50 non-refundable application fee. Fee is required to initiate an application for admission and must be paid as part of the application process. The fee covers the cost of transcript requests, transcript evaluation and other administrative costs.
  • After submitting admission materials, applicants may be required to take part in a faculty interview for assessment of professionalism and academic fit to the program.
  • GRE and GMAT are not required for admission.

Recommendation Requirements

Your references must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be from professionals who have observed your work with children and adolescents
  • Must be from professionals who are directly connected to working with children andadolescents
  • May be from supervisors or fellow workers in a paid or volunteer positions
  • Cannot be from prior university instructors or from persons who are not directly involved in the work with children and adolescents
  • Cannot be personal references

Applicants who do not have the preferred experience must submit letters from professionals who have observed their professional work with other age groups.

Writing Sample Requirements

The profession of psychology relies heavily on accurate, scholarly, succinct, and concise communication. The admissions committee seeks to understand your potential as a professional psychologist in terms of your ability to write clearly and communicate your thoughts effectively. You are asked to produce 2 writing samples that are between 500 and 1000 words in length, and represent your best writing efforts.

Goals, Objectives And Plans Writing Sample

This writing sample should describe your goals, objectives, and plans as they pertain to obtaining a school psychology degree.

It should also address how you plan to complete these requirements:

  • Clinical training consisting of 2 quarters of practicum working 20 hours per week at a school site
  • An internship of 3 quarters working 40 hours per week, at least half of which must be completed at a school site NASP Standards Writing Sample

This writing sample should describe how you have exhibited skills related to one of the domains of the National Association for School Psychologists (NASP) Standards for Training and Field Placement.

CV/ Résumé Requirements

Your professional résumé or curriculum vitae must be prepared specifically for this application in Microsoft Word and should demonstrate career progression, leadership and overall achievements.

The up-to-date résumé should cover:

  • Your professional work experience
  • Volunteering experience
  • Certifications, training, and special awards The résumé should have a professional, easy-to-read appearance and be checked for spelling errors.

International Student Requirements

You are considered an international applicant if you completed your highest degree outside of the U.S., regardless of where you currently live. International applications include all U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens who have completed their most recent academic coursework, degree, or credential at an institution outside the U.S.

In addition to the above admission requirements, you will need to submit these materials:

  • Minimum scores and acceptable tests for proof of English proficiency
  • Transcript evaluation
