Every member of Capella's Nursing faculty has a doctoral degree, combined with leadership experience and a background in frontline nursing. Our MHA, DHA, and PhD health care faculty all have doctoral degrees, and many members have served as leaders of regional, national and international organizations including major hospitals, health care and legal nurse consulting, care providers, pharmaceutical companies, public health care organizations, and Veterans Administration.

John Darland PsyD, MPP
Dr. John Darland serves as the interim dean for the School of Public Service Leadership and previously served as the faculty chair for the public administration and nonprofit management and leadership program areas. Dr. Darland, who has worked at the university since 2002, has also served as faculty chair for the Learner Success and Faculty Engagement area in the School of Public Service Leadership, which is responsible for the First Course experience and faculty coaching. Before joining Capella, he worked as a clinical psychologist in a variety of mental health settings, as well as a mental health policy analyst for the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Dr. Darland holds a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University and an MPP in Public and Nonprofit Management from the University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.
Patricia Talbert, PhD, MPH, MS, CPHA, CHES
Dr. Patricia Talbert is the healthcare faculty chair for Capella University in the School of Public Service Leadership. She specializes in studies of Public Health with a primary focus on women's health, health care law and ethics, health care management, and health promotion and education. Her research interests include primary prevention of cancer, cardiovascular disease, youth violence, and exploring health disparities, with a focus on social and physical determinants of health. She serves on numerous boards and committees including the Healthcare Quality Management Board, the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, the Association for the Study of Higher Education, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Powell Center for Women's Health. Dr. Talbert holds a BA in Ethnic Studies from Metropolitan State University, a MS in Higher Education Administration from St. Cloud State University, and a MPH and PhD in Public Health, with a specialization in Community Health Promotion and Education, from Walden University.
