Capella: An Accredited University

Capella University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

The Higher Learning Commission is among the 6 regional accrediting bodies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Regional bodies accredit colleges and universities; national bodies accredit trade and vocational schools.

The PhD specialization in Special Education Leadership is recognized by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).

The MS specialization in Early Childhood Education is recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).


The MS specialization in Leadership in Educational Administration, the EdS and PhD specializations in Leadership in Educational Administration are recognized by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC).

Capella offers 14 advanced academic offerings that prepare individuals to serve in a variety of roles within the P–12 education environment. These programs make up Capella's Professional Education Unit, which has been accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). NCATE-accredited programs are known for their standards and rigor, which is why graduates of these programs are highly regarded by many school districts, licensing authorities, and teaching professionals.

Capella's School of Education faculty members are active and experienced in their professions, and nearly all members hold a doctoral degree. From P-12 teachers to administrators, our faculty hold top academic credentials in the areas they teach and many are published authors. Noteworthy contributions include directing an Ojibwe Language and Culture Education program and creating a middle college high school of 240 students on a college campus.
