When Robert Entwistle set out to bring his career goals to fruition, he had no idea the perfect solution was only a click away.
As a member of the Phi Theta Kappa national honor society, Entwistle was searching their Web site for scholarship opportunities when Capella University caught his eye.
“I've wanted to get into project management for some time, so I was looking for some sort of management program. I didn't realize that I could actually get a degree specializing in project management—until I found Capella,” he said. “Knowing that I needed the project management knowledge to support this goal, and with the skills I already I have, I knew the program was just what I was looking for.”
Capella's strong relationship with the Project Management Institute (PMI®) allows Entwistle the opportunity to earn credits toward a PMP® Certification at the same time, something that he says had a significant impact on his decision to choose Capella. The combination of program relevance and online format motivated him to apply for Capella's Phi Theta scholarship.
“I was very excited to find out I received the scholarship,” Entwistle said. “It enabled me to make my goal a reality.”
Entwistle is currently pursuing a BS in IT with a specialization in Project Management. Now into the heart of his program, he's even more confident in his path toward project management, and is already seeing a greater breadth of knowledge in areas such as trouble shooting, research, and communication skills.
“With every class I take, I have more and more appreciation for project management and enjoy putting these skills to use,” Entwistle said.
Entwistle is confident in his decision to go back to school, and to do so with Capella, and he uses his own experiences to encourage others to do the same.
“You can do so much more with your life with a college education. Take the first step. Decide what you want to do, look at different programs, and pick the one that's right for you. In the case of project management, Capella is the way to go.”
