Human Subjects Research Summit

Capella University is delighted to partner with academic institutions and community organizations in the Minneapolis- St. Paul area to promote the professional development of human subjects researchers and Institutional Review Board (IRB) members.

Capella hosted the first Human Subjects Research Summit in 2010, bringing together Twin Cities IRB professionals from local colleges and universities to discuss best practices for IRB review of student research. In 2011, Capella co-sponsored the second Human Subjects Research Summit, partnering with St. Catherine University, in St. Paul, MN. The full day Summit brought together Twin Cities researchers and IRB members for a morning workshop focused on best practices in internet research and data security, followed by an afternoon workshop on responsible practices for community-based collaborative action research (CBCAR). Speakers included leading internet researcher and ethnographer, Dr. Montana Miller and Capella's own data security expert Maria Schuett, as well as leading CBCAR researchers and authors Dr. Carol Pavlish of UCLA, and St. Kate's own Dr. Margaret Dexheimer Pharris.
