New and Improved IRB Forms and Templates
New IRB application forms and templates are now available on the Research Center! This includes:
- New IRB Application
- New Records Based Research Application
- New and revised Supplemental Forms
- New Informed Consent Form templates
The new forms and templates are intended to eliminate redundancies, clarify questions, enhance the quality of IRB submissions, and improve the researcher experience. They can be found under Forms and Templates. We encourage all researchers to use the new forms and templates. However, if you have already started to complete the 2010 version of a form or template, you can continue to use that version until October 1, 2011.
We are seeking feedback on the new forms and templates. If you have a comment or suggestion, please complete this anonymous survey. The Research Integrity Office will review any feedback received between July and September and make final revisions. In October, final versions of the Forms and Templates will be published on the Research Center and researchers will be required to use those Forms and Templates.
IRBNet Changes
New processes for IRB Submission via IRBNet go into effect beginning April 11, 2011. All studies submitted on or after April 11, 2011 will be handled in accordance with new IRBNet processes. Since these procedures impact Capella's compliance with federal regulations, no exceptions will be made. This means that a learner who receives a deferral notification on April 11, 2011 for a new project submitted in mid-March will need to submit his/her revisions via the new procedures outlined in the Step by Step Guides. Similarly, learners will use the new procedures for all study modification requests, continuing review submissions, study closure form submissions, and HRPP violation reports, regardless of when their project was initially submitted. Details concerning the changes are available in the March edition of the Research Messenger. Learners and Mentors should familiarize themselves with the new IRBNet Step by Step Guide and review online tutorials created by HRPP Staff and IRBNet. More information is available in the March 2011 Research Messenger issue.

Capella Email
Capella email is a simple way for learners to stay connected to Capella! As of January 1, 2011, all Capella researchers must use their Capella email address when registering in IRBNet and submitting IRB Applications! Please note that applications will be returned as incomplete if the Capella email address is not included
IRB Reviews during Quarter Break
During the quarter break, the IRB office will continue to screen and process IRB applications as usual, and doctoral learners are welcome to submit IRB applications during this time. Please be aware, however, that faculty who review IRB applications will be on break during this time, so you can expect longer-than-usual turn-around times. These delays apply to new studies only; continuing reviews will not be impacted by the quarter break, and the office will remain fully staffed except during designated Capella holidays. Please plan accordingly and feel free to contact irb@capella.edu with any questions.
