Interdisciplinary Forensics

Prepare yourself to become a more powerful advocate for causes and clients within the legal system. Forensics encompasses a wide range of disciplines and situations that deal with legal rules and procedures. Capella's Interdisciplinary Forensics certificate is most relevant to public safety and mental health practitioners who want to gain a better understanding of the interaction of forensic studies and their professions, including the role of forensics in criminal investigations, and the use of forensics to address issues that combine legal and behavioral challenges, such as domestic violence and child endangerment. The certificate would also be valuable to other public service or health care professionals who work with legal aspects of social issues, such as immigration or public health. The curriculum for this certificate covers such topics as professional and legal standards in forensics; the role of forensic research in identifying and addressing legal issues associated with certain societal problems; mental health practices and procedures within the legal system, such as competency evaluations and expert testimony; the effects of legal precedents and technological advances in the practice of forensics; and the role of multidisciplinary coalitions in gathering and analyzing forensic data and developing intervention strategies.
