Capella’s Leadership and Accountability Post-Master's Certificate helps you enhance your skills in educational theory, communications and problem solving, and other important aspects of leadership in education.

This certificate program offers the skills you need to advance as a practicing education professional. The certificate emphasizes creative and critical thinking and practical application of inquiry, research, leadership, and management skills in a variety of education settings. As a learner in this program, you will gain the expertise needed to excel as an effective strategist, problem solver, and change manager in your own educational setting.

Courses in this post-master’s certificate program offer high-quality, stand-alone learning experiences, or they can be combined toward the partial completion of a EdD in education.

The Leadership and Accountability Post-Master's Certificate is a pre-requisite for the Post-Master's Certificate in Adult Education and Leadership, Educational Leadership and Management, Curriculum and Instruction, and Performance Improvement Leadership.

Advanced Studies in Education: Theory, Practice, and Purpose

This is the introductory course for learners pursuing doctoral, education specialists, and post-master’s certification within the School of Education. Learners in this course focus on critical thinking and scholarly writing—requisite skills for graduate study and professional practice. This course provides opportunities for learners to acquire and practice skills necessary to succeed in online learning. In keeping with Capella University’s focus on the scholar-practitioner model, learners also critically examine and apply relevant educational theory to their practice. Finally, learners articulate and examine their professional purpose and how it aligns with their chosen degree program and professional career aspirations. Must be taken during the learner’s first quarter. Cannot be fulfilled by transfer.

Leadership through Personal and Professional Development

This course provides an overview of the fundamental principles and skills of leadership in educational organizations. Learners reflect on personal values and behaviors and those of organizations. Learners explore basic principles of systems and design thinking and approaches to continuous improvement cycles in relation to leadership processes and organizational change. Learners utilize tools to apply these concepts to real world leadership challenges.  For EdD Adult Education, EdD Curriculum and Instruction, EdD Educational Leadership and Management, EdD Performance Improvement Leadership, and Post-Master’s Certificate in Leadership and Accountability learners only. Becoming a Critical Consumer of Action Research

Thiscourse provides an introduction to basic principles of research approaches, designs, and methods with a focus on the needs of educational leaders. Learners explore conceptual and theoretical foundations of quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, and action research designs. Through analysis of a varied series of research studies, learners acquire the knowledge necessary to become critical consumers of research. Learners apply course concepts to the design of an action research study relevant to the learner’s organization.  For EdD Adult Education, EdD Curriculum and Instruction, EdD Educational Leadership and Management, EdD Performance Improvement Leadership, EdD Teacher Leader in K–12 Studies, EdS Teacher Leader in K–12 Studies, and Post-Master’s Certificate in Leadership and Accountability learners only. The How-To of Becoming an Action Researcher

In this course, learners develop and demonstrate skills in data and information literacy. Learnersexamine continuous improvement models, engage in an inquiry cycle, and collaborate with stakeholders to assess organizational needs and dynamics. Learners are introduced to the collection, analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of new and existing data, andways to communicate findings to stakeholders.  For EdD Adult Education, EdD Curriculum and Instruction, EdD Educational Leadership and Management, EdD Performance Improvement Leadership, and Post-Master’s Certificate in Leadership and Accountability learners only. Systems and Theories of Organizational Dynamics and Change

Learners continue their study of leadership and management principles and skills as they develop further understanding of organizational dynamics.
