Overview

Capella University’s online EdD specialization, Teacher Leader in K–12 Studies, prepares you to adopt the leadership skills needed to build a culture of effective teaching and learning in your classroom, school, and district.

This EdD program offers a specialization that can help you take a leadership role in promoting a culture of collaboration in your school, use data to improve teacher performance and student learning, and advocate for teachers and students. Capella’s comprehensive approach will guide you through this applied research doctorate, allowing you to gain the critical skills you need to become a teacher leader. Faculty offer personalized support to guide your progress through the doctorate, build your applied research and writing skills, and encourage expertise and leadership in your profession.

This program is designed around the Teacher Leader Model Standards, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Teachers, the Association of Teacher Educators Standards for Teacher Educators, and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standards.

This program is part of Capella University’s Professional Education Unit, which is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). 

Degree Outcomes

With your EdD in Teacher Leader in K-12 Studies from Capella, you’ll develop a strong grasp of educational leadership, including finance, HR, operations, data-informed decision making, systems thinking, and change management. Your capstone experience will offer you unique skills based on practical application of the knowledge you obtain in this program.

Our online-learning format that guides you along. You pay per credit; we set the deadlines. 

  • Based on the quarter system; 1–3 courses per 10-week quarter
  • 1 semester credit = 1.5 quarter credits
  • Weekly assignments and courseroom discussions
  • Pay for what you take, price varies by courseload or term
