Notable Faculty

Nearly all of Capella's faculty from the Harold Abel School of Social and Behavioral Sciences have a doctoral degree and many work as licensed practitioners, school psychologists, school counselors, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, alcohol and drug abuse counselors, registered play therapy supervisors, psychologists and social workers. Our instructors have expertise in child and adolescent development, and family and geriatric issues. They are also proficient in designing programs to meet state and national accreditation standards, and have experience consulting with privately held businesses with a focus on succession planning, organizational development, executive development, and coaching.

Andrea Miller, PhD

Dean of Psychology, Harold Abel School of Social and Behavioral Sciences

Andrea Miller has worked as a member of the Capella team since 2010 and has taught online since 2005.  She began as an adjunct faculty member and later moved to lead faculty and then to the faculty chair role for the psychology department in the School of Undergraduate Studies at Capella University.  In 2015 Dr. Miller moved to the Dean of Psychology role in the Harold Abel School of Social and Behavioral Sciences.  Her professional background includes work as a psychologist in the public schools and as a psychologist and supervisor for non-profit clinics. She specializes in working with children and families as well as individuals of all ages with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.  Dr. Miller is licensed as a psychologist in three states, licensed as a specialist in school psychology, and a human services board certified practitioner.  She is active in psychological associations and served as President of the Georgia Psychological Association from 2013-2014.  Dr. Miller holds Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas Woman’s University and a B.A. from the University of Michigan.

Shana Pack, PhD

FACULTY CHAIR

Dr. Pack started with Capella in 2009 as a part-time mentor and enjoyed being part of the research faculty, teaching research courses, and mentoring learners as they worked on their dissertations. She has served in the interim chair role since July of 2016 and brings a formidable research and teaching background, experience as a Capella mentor and instructor, and experience as a lead faculty. Dr. Pack received training as a research psychologist in physiological psychology, investigating brain mechanisms of drug reinforcement. Dr. Pack holds a PhD and an MS in Experimental Psychology from University of Kentucky and BA degrees in both Psychology and English from Transylvania University. Altogether, Dr. Pack has been teaching psychology to graduates and undergraduates for 25 years.
