What nursing scholarships and grants are available to me?

There are many types of nursing scholarships and grants available to help finance your nursing degree program.

How They Work

Scholarships are a great way to fund your education because they do not have to be paid back. They are usually awarded based on merit, GPA, degree level, and other factors.

Scholarships and grants are generally easy to apply for and are available at both the graduate and undergraduate level. They can be used for tuition, fees and many other education expenses.

Where to Find Scholarships

Nursing associations, humanitarian organizations, and large companies all offer nursing scholarship opportunities. Johnson & Johnson's has a “Find a Scholarship” page that shows 366 nursing scholarships available by state.

There is also a federal scholarship program for nurses available through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration.

Another good way to search for scholarships is to use any of the free scholarship databases available online. These personalized-search websites compare your background with scholarships available. Only scholarships that fit your profile are identified as matches. With more than 1.5 million scholarships worth more than $3.4 billion available, these scholarship websites can be especially helpful and include:

Some hospitals and health care organizations also reimburse portions of their employees' tuition, and the federal financial aid program provides loans to help cover tuition costs.

Capella Scholarships and Grants

Capella University offers scholarships and grants to students currently enrolled in a degree program. Most scholarships are awarded to several students once per year. Applications are only accepted during the specified time period.

Scholarships and grants are available at both the graduate and undergraduate level and can be used for tuition, fees and other education expenses. Most Capella grants are not necessarily based on past academic merit; Capella grants are not based on financial need and do not require repayment.
