Capella University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The Higher Learning Commission is among the 6 regional accrediting bodies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Regional bodies accredit colleges and universities; national bodies accredit trade and vocational schools.


The Professional Education Unit at Capella University is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), 2010 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20036; phone (202) 466-7496. This accreditation covers advanced educator preparation programs. NCATE is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel.

Capella offers 14 advanced academic offerings that prepare individuals to serve in a variety of roles within the P–12 education environment. Capella's School of Education faculty members are active and experienced in their professions, and nearly all members hold a doctoral degree. From P-12 teachers to administrators, our faculty hold top academic credentials in the areas they teach and many are published authors. Noteworthy contributions include directing an Ojibwe Language and Culture Education program and creating a middle college high school of 240 students on a college campus.

    Start Now, Save up to $3,000

    To be eligible for the $3,000 Master's in Education Scholarship you must enroll in a qualifying master's program by December 7, 2015, pass your first course, and meet all other eligibility requirements.

    Credit for Real-World Experience

    You can earn credits through our Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process by demonstrating mastery of competencies, and may be eligible to earn credit for previous coursework, experience and learning.

    Employer Tuition Reimbursement

    Many employers offer tuition reimbursement to their employees — - even those without a formal program. Check with your HR department or manager to see if you are eligible.

    Credit for Real-World Learning

    You can earn credits through our Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process. By demonstrating your knowledge in a subject gained through experience and background in a subject, you may be eligible to gain credit for your knowledge and prior learning outside a formal courseroom.
