A Supportive Learning Experience

Active service members, family members, and veterans of all branches of the military are eligible for a number of benefits and scholarships. However, navigating which funding you may be entitled to can be daunting. That’s why Capella University offers powerful resources to make it easier to determine and use the benefits you’ve earned.

Expert Support

Capella is dedicated to giving military students full support all the way through their program and long after graduation. We ensure that each counselor is equipped with the knowledge to assist service members and veterans through the admissions process. Our team is on hand to assist military-affiliated students with any issues that arise throughout their enrollment—including additional benefits questions or the need to take a military leave of absence (available for spouses, too).

A Seamless Process

We understand the unique needs of military students which is why prospective students typically begin their admissions process at Capella through a conversation about their goals and previous experience. Regardless of whether it relates to advancement within the military or civilian workforce, we will help you determine which degree program best matches your ambitions. Our support team will also discuss which online learning format is a better fit for you – GuidedPath or FlexPath, the self-paced, direct assessment model which is available for select programs.

Understanding Your Finances

With so many benefits available to military-affiliated students, it can be a challenge trying to work out exactly which you’re entitled to. Our support team is experienced with Veteran Affairs (VA) and military Tuition Assistance (TA) benefits and can help you understand and take full advantage of these important financial resources. Plus we’ll help you explore other benefits, including a military tuition discount and earning credit for military training, military jobs, and time in service.

We have military affiliations and partnerships with organizations like GoArmyEd, DANTES, and others, and our counselors are prepared to discuss benefit eligibility, guide you to the appropriate resources if needed, and help you process all benefits. From the very start, our team ensures that each military benefit is applied correctly prior to the beginning of your course.

Military Spousal Support

You do not have to wear a uniform to serve your country. We understand the unique burden of service borne by our military spouses. You have supported your spouse and the military; now let us support you on your education journey.

  • Capella is the first and only higher education institution that provides a Military Leave of Absence to military spouses.

  • The Transfer of Education Benefits (TEB) program allows qualified service members to transfer their Post 9/11 GI Bill education benefits to a spouse and/or dependent(s).

  • The Survivors and Dependents Assistance Program, or Chapter 35, is designed to support the spouse or children of a service member who has been killed in action or who has a permanent and total (100%) disability that is service connected.

  • My Career Advancement Account, or MyCAA is an education program open to military spouses seeking an associate's degree, credentials, and licensure programs. It is only open to individuals whose spouses are on Active Duty or Active/Guard Reserve and are in one of the following pay-grades: E1-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O2.
