Who is eligible?

New students who start their Bachelor of Science program between April 8 and June 3, 2013 and pass their first course, and carry at least 7 credits in each subsequent quarter of the grant period.

When is the grant available?

Until June 3, 2013. To receive the grant, students must apply before their first course begins and no later than June 3, 2013. Late applications will not be accepted.

Other scholarships and grants

Helene Krivosha School of Education Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by Capella in honor of Helene Krivosha, a founding member of Capella University Board of Directors, who served on the board from 1994 to 2004.

How much is the award?

Two $5,000 scholarships are awarded each year — one to a MS learner and one to a doctoral learner. The funds are distributed evenly over 4 consecutive quarters.

When is this scholarship available?

This scholarship is offered once per year. Applications are typically accepted mid-March to late April.

Who is eligible?

Master's or doctoral degree learners in the School of Education who demonstrate academic excellence as well as financial need, and who are currently enrolled and have successfully completed at least 4 quarters in their MS or doctoral program in education.

U.S. Department of Defense Information Assurance Scholarship

Capella learners are eligible for this one-year full scholarship because Capella is one of the select institutions to earn the Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE) designation from the National Security Agency (NSA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

How much is the award?
  • Full tuition, books, and expenses for one year
  • $17,000 stipend ($22,000 for graduate students)
  • Information security internship with the Department of Defense and a professional position with the DoD agency at the completion of your program. Most internships are located in the Washington, D.C. area. This scholarship program requires you to fulfill a period of service with the DoD.
When is this scholarship available?

This scholarship is offered once per year. Applications are accepted until February 4, 2013.

Who is eligible?

Current undergraduate, master's and doctoral learners who are enrolled in a program related to computer and network security. Undergraduate learners must have earned at least 90 credits.

Scholarship is closed for application.

Harold Abel School of Social and Behavioral Sciences School Psychology Certificate Practicum Scholarship

This scholarship is available to learners enrolled in the Specialist Certificate in School Psychology program.

How much is the award?

Two $2,500 scholarships are available twice a year. The funds are distributed evenly over 2 quarters of the practicum.

When is this scholarship available?

This scholarship is offered twice per year. Applications for Winter quarter are accepted mid-October to mid-November; the Summer quarter award, early April to mid-May.

Who is eligible?

Current learners in the Specialist Certificate in the School Psychology program who have completed at least 20 quarter credit hours, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.8, and are student members of NASP (National Association of School Psychologists).

Harold Abel School of Social and Behavioral Sciences School Psychology Master's Degree Scholarship

This scholarship is available to learners enrolled in the School Psychology master's degree specialization.

How much is the award?

Four $2,500 scholarships are available twice a year. The funds are distributed evenly over 2 consecutive quarters.

When is this scholarship available?

This scholarship is offered twice per year. Applications for Winter quarter are accepted mid-October to mid-November; the Summer quarter award, mid-March to late April.

Who is eligible?

Current learners in the School Psychology master's degree specialization who have completed at least 20 quarter credit hours, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.8, and are student members of NASP (National Association of School Psychologists).

Scott Sathers Family and Friends Scholarship

Scott Sathers was a beloved and valued staff member of Capella University who died in the collapse of the I-35W bridge in August 2007 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Scholarship funds are raised by Scott's family and friends at their annual golf tournament.

How much is the award?

$2,500 to 3,000, distributed in summer quarter. The number of scholarships and award amount is dependent on funds raised each year; typically 6 to 8 scholarships are awarded.

When is this scholarship available?

This scholarship is offered once per year; applications are accepted mid-March to late April.

Who is eligible?

Current Capella learners enrolled in one of the specializations and degree programs in the fields of counseling, psychology, or public safety, who have successfully completed their first course, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (graduate learners) or 2.0 (undergraduate learners), and can demonstrate financial need.

Scott Sathers Memorial Scholarship

Scott Sathers was a beloved and valued staff member of Capella University who died in the collapse of the I-35W bridge in August 2007 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His parents and wife, along with Capella, established this scholarship in his memory.

How much is the award?

Two $2,500 scholarships are awarded in the fall of each year.

When is this scholarship available?

This scholarship is offered once per year. Applications are accepted late June to early August.

Who is eligible?

Current Capella learners enrolled in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Sport Psychology master's degree specializations, who have successfully completed their first course, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and can demonstrate financial need.

Robert C. Ford Scholarship

This scholarship is funded by Capella in honor of Dr. Robert C. Ford, who served as dean of the Capella University School of Human Services from 1997 until his death in 2001.

How much is the award?

Eight $4,000 scholarships are available each year; typically, 2 are awarded each quarter. The funds are distributed evenly over 4 consecutive quarters. Recipients may qualify for the scholarship for up to 3 years, for a total of 12 quarters, in one degree program.

When is this scholarship available?

The Robert C. Ford Scholarship is offered 4 times per year. Applications are accepted beginning mid-September, early December, mid-March, and mid-June.

Who is eligible?

Current Capella learners enrolled in any degree program who demonstrate academic and professional objectives reflective of Dr. Ford's mission to help people help themselves, while serving traditionally underserved and disadvantaged members of society, and who have successfully completed first course and who demonstrate financial need.

TEACH (Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education) Grant*

Capella is a participant in the federal TEACH Grant program. The grant is offered to students who commit to teaching in a high-need field at a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families.

How much is the grant?

The TEACH Grant is renewable each aid year (as long as you continue to meet eligibility requirements) for a benefit of up to $4,000 per financial aid year (up to $8,000 in aggregate for graduate learners).

When is the grant available?

The grant is available year-round.

Who is eligible?

Students enrolled in Capella's MS in Education program in one of the following specializations:

  • English Language Learning and Teaching
  • Leadership in Educational Administration
  • Reading and Literacy
  • Special Education Teaching

Recipients must also agree to teach full-time in a high-need field in a school that serves low-income families for a total of at least 4 academic years within 8 years after completing or withdrawing from your program. See full eligibility requirements.

Federal Pell Grant

Federal Pell Grant: Grants do not need to be repaid. The Pell Grant is based on financial need, and awarded to eligible students in an undergraduate program. The maximum Pell Grant award is $5,550 per aid year. The actual award depends on the student's enrollment status each quarter (full time or half time).

Per federal regulations, scholarship awards may decrease the amount of financial aid funds available to the recipient.
