Collaboration for Success: Business, Technology and Health Care Administration + Capella University

The Advisory Board serves as a brain trust for leaders and key decision makers within the School of Business, Technology and Health Care Administration. Composed of leaders and influencers within a wide expanse of industries and functional areas, the board provides insights into the skills, competencies and hands-on learning experiences employees must have to successfully meet the ongoing challenges of a dynamic employment market.

Our purpose

The purpose of the SoBTH Advisory Board is to allow members to provide insights, input, and feedback on the skills that employers demand of business management, information technology and health care administration learners.

The Advisory Board will help ensure that Capella University provides:

  • Academic offerings that are designed with relevant and meaningful curricular and non-curricular learning opportunities
  • High quality, relevant educational programing that is challenging, engaging, supportive, transformative, and diverse
  • Learners with the skills and experiences necessary to lead and contribute to their organizations and communities

Capella faculty working with the Advisory Board

The Advisory Board provides industry and practice-relevant insight to Capella University leaders and faculty to enact on the mission of the school to meet the needs found within business and technology. Capella leaders and faculty collaborate with board members to ensure curricula effectively build the competencies needed in today’s complex business environment.

In addition, the interactions between the board and Capella leadership and faculty ensure Capella’s programs are professionally relevant and provide the flexibility needed for learners to succeed in their educational programs, and have a positive impact on business outcomes.

Board Members

Elisa Bannon-Jones, MS

Chief People Officer
GNC International

Elisa Bannon-Jones is Chief People Officer for GNC International. She leads the overall human resources strategy, overseeing compensation and benefits, talent acquisition, and performance and development. 

Elisa Bannon-Jones is a Global Human Resource executive with deep experience in consulting and collaborating with CEO, Board, Senior Leadership, functional teams and HR Community to drive organizational and leadership effectiveness. A Talent Strategies expert, her background includes organizational design, change management, recruiting, talent management, performance management and total rewards. Bannon-Jones has an accomplished track record of creating shareholder value through successful Human Resources initiatives aligned with company and functional strategic plans. Her international experience includes working with 57 countries in North America, Central America, South America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

Prior to joining GNC International, Bannon-Jones served as Chief People Officer for Pep Boys. Her background also includes leadership roles in human resources, sales and operations for Frontier Communications, The Budget Group, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Brightstar Corp.

Bannon-Jones earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Leadership and a Master of Science in Higher Education, specializing in Adult Education, from Capella University. She has certifications from the Kellogg Strategic Human Resources program, Cornell Women in Executive Leadership, and a Master of Human Capital Strategist Designation in Organizational Effectiveness from the Human Capital Institute. She was named the Chief Human Resources Officer of the Year (2020) from HRO Today.

She is a member of the Capella University School of Business, Technology and Health Care Administration Advisory Board.

LeRon Barton

Writer, Speaker

LeRon L. Barton is a writer from Kansas City, Missouri currently living in San Francisco, CA. A graduate of Paseo Academy of Fine Arts, LeRon is the author of two books, Straight Dope: A 360 Degree Look into American Drug Culture and All We Really Need Is Love: Stories of Dating, Relationships, Heartbreak, and Marriage.

In addition to his books, LeRon is an essayist whose topics cover racism, mass incarceration, politics, gender, and dating.  These works have appeared in Black Enterprise, Salon, Harvard Business Review, The Good Men Project, Your Tango, Media Diversity, Raconteur, Elephant Journal, East Bay Times, and MoAD. LeRon is an international speaker who has given three TEDx speeches and has appeared at Al Jazeera, the University of San Francisco, Navis, Speakers Who Dare, Nas Dubai, Glide Memorial Church, The City of Cupertino, Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, Square, and Defy Ventures. In his spare time, LeRon enjoys mentoring African-American youth, teaching Creative Writing at the San Francisco County Jail, and backpacking around the world.

Mignona Cote'

Senior Vice President & Chief Security Officer (CSO)
NetApp Inc.

As Chief Security Officer, Mignona Cote provides leadership, strategic direction and oversight for NetApp’s IT and product security. Mignona has served in chief information security officer roles and has a demonstrated history across insurance, healthcare, and large financial institutions. She is skilled in cybersecurity, enterprise risk management, vulnerability management, internal audit, IT strategy, and leadership.

Offering over 25 years of securing and improving technical operations for companies like AIG, Aetna, Bank of America, PepsiCo, and Verizon Communications, she has led the development and execution of security solutions that improve international and global networks. Her background encompasses payments within health savings and bank card services, securing transactions, and preventing fraud. 

She is a strong technology professional with an MBA focused in business and accounting from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, and undergraduate degrees in both computer information systems and Spanish.

Rick Durig

Senior Director
KPMG Healthcare Practice

Rick Durig recently joined the Healthcare practice at KPMG and is accountable for the firm's relationships with UnitedHealth Group. Previously he held the role of senior director for Watson Health, Global Health and Human Services, a division of IBM. Mr. Durig has over 25 years of healthcare experience focusing on the application of technology across the healthcare ecosystem - Payer, Provider, Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and government agencies - under the umbrella of Health and Human Services and Global Technology Services, He has assembled and led some of the largest and most complex engagements in IBM's history and is a visionary in terms of Healthcare transformation and patient/consumer experience transformation.

Samantha Ogle, DHA, RN, OCN, DP-NAP

Senior Oncology Sales Representative

A transformational leader with demonstrated abilities to build and motivate highly effective teams toward strategic goals and outcomes, Dr. Ogle had more than 20 years of progressive experience in the health care industry serving in a variety of roles at Novant Health and Wake Forest Baptist Health, before transitioning her skill set to the world of pharmaceuticals.

Her diverse background includes extensive experience in clinical care, healthcare operations, strategic planning, program management, supervision, education, consulting, project development and implementation, quality compliance, accreditation standards, finance, and community partnerships.

Dr. Ogle is a published author and frequent speaker at industry conferences. She earned her BSN and MSN degrees from Winston Salem State University, and her DHA from Capella University.

Tim Ohai 

Director, Global Sales Effectivenss

Tim Ohai is the director of global sales effectiveness at Workday. In his role, his focus is on linking strategy to execution through the most critical of resources: the organization’s people. Tim consistently helps leaders solve large, complex problems – especially around the topics of sales enablement and strategic execution. He strongly believes that if you can maximize how people work, the possible results are unlimited.

Tim is also the co-founder and international director of the Ubuntu Mission, a non-profit based out of South Africa that teaches business and leadership skills in disadvantaged communities. This work is incredibly dear to his heart and his hope is to one day make this his full-time responsibility.

Tim’s previous experience includes:

  • Founding his own consulting firm, Growth & Associates, where he and his team helped Fortune 500 companies design and adopt selling solutions internationally, build sales systems that increase revenue and customer loyalty, and create genuine coaching cultures
  • Co-authoring three books: World-Class Selling, Sales Chaos, and The Power of Problems
  • Earning his BA in Behavioral Science from Northwest University and his MS in Organizational Psychology from Capella University

On a personal note, Tim is a widower with two adult children, Connor and Caelan. And while Tim now lives in the California Bay Area, he is originally (and proudly) from Hawai’i.

Carolina Pulido

Director of Learning, Organizational Development and Early Talent
Retail Business Services

Carolina is the Director of Learning, Organizational Development and Early Talent for Retail Business Services. Retail Business Services is the services company of Ahold Delhaize USA, currently providing services to five East Coast grocery brands, including Food Lion, The GIANT Company, Giant Food, Hannaford, and Stop & Shop.

The local brands of Ahold Delhaize USA operate nearly 2,000 stores and distribution centers across 23 states, serving millions of customers each week through a wide variety of store formats with thousands of food and non-food items.

In her role, Carolina is responsible for creating strategic direction for talent development, organizational development and early talent programs, by partnering with the business and HR partners to evaluate competency requirements, critical business challenges, external trends, and short- and long-term organizational goals, to build sustainable solutions that maximize organizational performance improvement.

Carolina holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, with a minor in psychology, from La Universidad de la Sabana in Bogota, Colombia.

Outside of work, Carolina participates in a number of organizations, including the National Hispanic Corporate Council, the Network of Executive Women, and the Latin American Chamber of Commerce. She lives in Charlotte with her husband Ricardo and her children, Elena and Diego.

Ed Ross

Michigan & Manchester Consulting Group

Ed is the CEO at Michigan & Manchester Consulting Group, a consulting firm focused on developing and implementing sales enablement strategies to increase revenue and expand market share.

As a creator of the Periodic Table of Leadership Development and a recognized top consultant, Coach and Entrepreneur in Sales Enablement, Ed partners with progressive organizations to build high-performance, sustainable cultures. He does this by focusing on coaching for long-term success rooted heavily within behavior-based organizational strategies.

As a seasoned Coach, Ed leads with emotional intelligence and establishes deep trust-based relationships to help organizations achieve their desired outcomes through high performance.

He is a world-class communicator with deep knowledge in the sciences of sales and business management. Ed has experience pinpointing problems, creating solutions to get results that inspire professionals at all levels from new hires to veterans, frontline to executives alike – applying their talents towards achieving individual goals as well as collective ones too!

Ed is a man of integrity, innovation, and empowerment. He believes in connecting the dots for his clients to make them successful by outshining their competition with increased revenue or growing market share. It's something he frequently demonstrates throughout all aspects of his work--from leading executive conversations at large companies to inspiring individual growth in start-up organizations where people come first.

Roy Skillicorn, MBA

Senior Director
CX Enablement, Cisco

For more than 20 years, Roy's been helping companies build their brand and deliver value to their customers during times of change and disruption.

Currently, Roy Skillicorn leads portfolio and professional enablement and Emerging Talent onboarding and development for Cisco's Global Customer Experience organization. This organization is responsible for accelerating the transition to software, subscriptions, and customer lifecycle success.

Before focusing on enablement and workforce acceleration, Roy spent 15 years as a Services General Manager, where he built, launched, and led global services and consulting practices for Cisco.

Roy is an active Capella University Advisory Board member and enjoys speaking on multiple industry topics.

Claude Snow

Management Consultant, Industry Advisor

Claude Snow has been a management consultant and industry advisor in the Healthcare industry for almost 40 years.  His clients include major Healthcare payers and providers, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and National Health Services in the United Kingdom and the European Union.

Claude provided clients strategic leadership in areas such as population health management, risk management, change management, clinical and business analytics, and the use of interventional technologies.  He created new business and operating models to implement the recommended strategic changes and then led the client organizations through their change process.

Claude has held partner-level and executive positions with Deloitte, IBM Global Services, Electronic Data Systems, and the Optum Insight division of United Health Group.  He retired from fulltime work activities in 2018 and spends much of his time in international travel and church and charity work.  Claude holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and has done postgraduate work in information technologies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and strategic planning at the London Business School.  He and his wife, Sarah, live in Chapel Hill, NC.

John F. Thompson, MBA

Chairman, President and CEO

John Thompson currently serves as President, CEO and Chairman of ShoptoCook, LLC, the grocery industry's only digital marketing platform connecting in-store, web, and mobile into a seamless interactive experience. In this role, Thompson oversees all aspects of the company’s vision and strategic development.

Prior to ShoptoCook, Thompson was Vice President of Strategy and Retail Network Development for Insignia Systems, an in-store media and advertising company, where he managed the access to and growth of more than 20,000 retail locations. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Strategy of Inmar, Inc. where he led the strategy, development and acquisition to support Inmar’s entry into the retail digital marketing industry. Other experience includes leadership roles with Unicous Marketing, Valassis Communications where he was President and General Manager of Valassis of Canada.

Thompson earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from West Virginia Institute of Technology and a master’s of business administration from West Virginia University.

Barbara Butts Williams, PhD

Dr. Barbara Butts Williams is an independent board director and accomplished corporate, academic, and community leader. She is a strategic and innovative thinker with strong business acumen leading to business growth and sustainability. Dr. Butts Williams’s expertise in cultural and organizational transformation, talent management, and fluency in diversity, equity, and inclusion has had positive impact on several premier organizations in both regulated and non-regulated industries throughout her career.

In her current role as Executive Dean, Social Responsibility and Community Engagement at Capella University, Dr. Butts Williams is recognized for her compelling work serving and supporting others to make a difference in lives and communities throughout the country. Previously at Capella, Dr. Butts Williams served as Dean, School of Business and Technology and Dean, School of Education with leadership responsibility for P&L and growth strategies, external relations and business partnerships, academic programs, learner success outcomes, and faculty and staff. A key leader at Capella, Dr. Butts Williams has worked closely with corporate partners, community leaders, external accreditation agencies and regulatory authorities throughout the U.S. Additionally, Dr. Butts Williams initiated and managed Capella University’s School of Business and Technology’s relationship with universities and businesses in Chile, India, and UAE. 

Her roles prior to Capella University included President of Growth Partners Consulting, a firm she founded to provide strategic consulting to small and medium-sized organizations. She also served as Chief Global Officer, Leadership Development, Talent Management and Succession Planning, and Chief Education Officer at the St. Paul Companies (now The Travelers Companies) as well as senior leadership roles with other premier organizations with a focus in marketing, business development, portfolio management, and human resources development. 

Dr. Butts Williams has served on multiple boards including corporate, non-profit, and private. Her current corporate board assignments include: Vice Chair, Compensation & Human Resources on Allina Health’s board (a $4B+ enterprise), and an Executive Loan and Nominating and Governance Committee member of HMN Financial Inc./ Home Federal Savings Bank. She also served as Vice Chair and member of the Board of Commissioners for Minnesota’s Sports Facilities Authority (U.S. Bank Stadium) as well as several other non-profit boards where she has served as Board Chair multiple times. Her leadership and board experience afford her a deep understanding and appreciation for best practices and strong governance and future-focused planning. 

She has received numerous recognitions honoring her exceptional board leadership, governance expertise and leadership in social responsibility and community impact including Twin Cities Business Magazine (Outstanding Board Director Award), Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal (Women in Business Career Achievement Award), Junior Achievement Upper-Midwest (Business Hall of Fame Laureate), and AARP/Pollen 50 over 50 (Top 10 Business Leaders). Dr. Butts Williams is recognized by the National Corporate Board of Directors Association as a Board Leadership Fellow.

Jennifer Straub, PhD

Dean, School of Business, Technology and Health Care Administration
Capella University

Dr. Jennifer Straub serves as Interim Dean of the School of Business, Technology, and Health Care Administration, as well as the Dean of Academic Initiatives. Dr. Straub received her Ph.D. in Pharmacology/Neuroscience Research from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2004. She then pursued her Post-Doctoral Studies in Neuroscience and Cancer Biology at the University of Vermont, where she researched the genetic etiology of the pediatric cancer Neuroblastoma. As a graduate and post-doctoral student, she was selected to speak at several conferences for her research, including the Keystone Symposia and Advances in Neuroblastoma Research Conference. 

Dr. Straub’s experiences in higher education include teaching both undergraduate and graduate studies, including the graduate Molecular Neurobiology course at the Marine Biological Laboratory, and undergraduate Health Sciences, Biology, and Liberal Arts/General Education courses at Eastern Connecticut State University, Johnson State College, Kaplan University, and the University of Phoenix.  Dr. Straub is currently completing her MBA from the Jack Welch Management Institute.

Dr. Straub has been with Capella University since 2010.  Prior to her current roles she served as chair and dean of the Division of Arts and Sciences and taught undergraduate learners in the field of Biology. 

Cheryl Boncuore, PhD

Associate Dean, School of Business, Technology and Health Care Administration
Capella University

Dr. Cheryl Boncuore is the associate dean of the School of Business, Technology and Health Care Administration at Capella University. In her current position, she enjoys working with faculty to ensure that available technology is used in innovative ways to have the greatest impact on learner success. Her focus on curricular alignment with institutional goals ensures that learners become great leaders that will have a positive and lasting impact on the world around them.

Dr. Boncuore's areas of expertise include technology, assessment, curriculum design, and creating online communities of practice. She has held leadership roles, serving as Dean of Faculty and Degree Programs; academic director of Distance Learning; and director of Instructional Design and Online Learning.

Dr. Boncuore has earned the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Education, Professional Studies with an emphasis on academic technology; a Master of Arts in Training and Development with an emphasis on adult learning theories and technology; and a B.S. in Journalism. 

Jennifer Conrad, MS

Jennifer Conrad has been working with executive professionals for over 20 years and is a Senior Consultant, Education Partnerships at Strategic Education, Inc.  Jennifer’s experience working with leaders in many sectors of business is extensive.  She is currently focused on workforce development and strategic partnership initiatives leveraging the solutions that are available through SEI.

Jennifer collaborates with senior and key team members to identify strategic goals for organizational efficiency by aligning workforce demands with SEI educational capabilities.

Jennifer believes in collaboration and developing relationships with her clients.  Her commitment to excellence revolves around client centricity, progressive teamwork, and understanding the culture of each organization.  Jennifer is a native from Minnesota and spent eleven years in Maryland. She partners with clients across the country.  Jennifer holds a BA in Communication and an MS in Psychology, Industrial/Organization.  She recognizes the importance of career success through learning and academic achievement.

Constance St. Germain, EdD, JD

Provost & Senior Vice President, Academic Affairs
Capella University

Constance St. Germain, Ed.D., J.D. joined Capella University in 2017 as its Chief Academic Officer and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs. In 2019 she was appointed as Provost where she is responsible for leading the University in achieving superior outcomes and impact. In her position, St. Germain provides leadership, in collaboration with other university stakeholders, on all aspects related to accreditation, faculty affairs, institutional policy, curriculum & programs, academic success and assessment.

Prior to joining Capella, she was the Executive Dean for the College of Humanities & Sciences at University of Phoenix, where she had strategic, operational and P&L responsibility for faculty, students and ground campuses across the country and online. While there, St. Germain positioned the college as an incubator for continued growth and development to transform students into socially aware, critically thinking global citizens.

In addition to her academic career, St. Germain is a U.S. Army veteran, where she served as a major in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. While on active duty, she held assignments as an attorney at military posts including the 82D Airborne Division and XVIII Airborne Corps Fort Bragg, NC.

St. Germain has authored numerous articles, presented at national conferences and served as an expert in the media on a wide range of issues facing both the workforce and higher education related to leadership, gender equality, mental health, food security, student outcomes, humanities study, and the law.

She received her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in higher education and organizational change from Benedictine University; her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Baltimore School of Law; and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from George Mason University. She is admitted to practice as an attorney in Vermont, Virginia and Maryland, as well as several federal courts. St. Germain’s research focus is on women and leadership.
