Eligibility Requirements and Application Details

Capella University believes in giving back by changing lives where we work and live. The Capella Fellows Program scholarship is our investment in helping to build the talent and leadership skills needed to help mitigate the educational, social, economic, health or racial inequalities in your community.

Capella will offer up to 50 scholarships and additional opportunities to eligible individuals who work to make a positive impact within their community. Each recipient will receive:

  • A full-tuition scholarship for a Capella master’s or doctoral program in the GuidedPath (available in all programs) or FlexPath (available in select programs) learning formats.
  • An invitation to networking events with Capella leadership, community leaders and other Capella University Fellows Program scholarship members.
  • Invitations to educational and social justice workshop events.

Eligibility requirements

Student criteria

Must be a full-time or benefit-eligible part-time employee of a qualified and predetermined Capella Fellows corporate partner or community organization. Must be a new student, or a former student reapplying to the university, accepted into and enrolled in an eligible master’s or doctoral program in the GuidedPath or FlexPath learning format at Capella University.*

Academic standards

Must adhere to all applicable Capella University policies, including but not limited to, good academic standing (3.01.04 Academic Standing).

First course

Must be able to begin your degree program on Oct. 7, 2024.

How to apply

Step 1

Apply for admission to an eligible degree program at Capella University.

  • Submit the online admission application.
  • When you submit your application, you’ll be prompted to create a user ID and password for your Capella account, which will give you access to Campus, our online student center. Remember this information – you’ll need it to complete the scholarship application.

Step 2

Using your Capella account login information, complete and submit the Capella University Fellows Program Scholarship Application on Campus. For the best experience, use Chrome or Firefox to access the scholarship application.

Attach the following documents to the application form before submitting:

  • Capella Fellows Scholarship essay response (1,500–2,500 words)
  • 1–2 letters of recommendation written by your employer with comments regarding your achievements and career objectives
  • 1–2 letters of recommendation written by a professional associate who can comment on your community service achievements
  • A current resume
  • Employer verification

Step 3

Optional: After you apply for the scholarship, fill out the FERPA release form. This gives Capella permission to disclose to your employer that you have applied for the scholarship. Whether or not you choose to allow Capella to disclose your identity does not affect your eligibility for the scholarship. View Capella’s 4.01.01 FERPA and Learner Directory Information.

  • Access optional FERPA release form.
  • Specify the reason for release as “Capella University Fellows Program Scholarship” and fill in the name of your company and address on page 2 of the form.
  • Once you have completed the form, send it to [email protected].

Step 4

Begin courses on Oct. 7, 2024.

 

Application deadline

Application deadline is 11:59 p.m. Central Time, June 10, 2024. Applications received after this date will not be considered. The recipients of the full-tuition scholarships will be notified by August 26, 2024.

Selection criteria

The Capella scholarship committee will select the award recipients based on eligibility requirements; the content, clarity and substance of responses to the essay question; letters of recommendation; and resume. Scholarship criteria are subject to state and federal law and may be modified at the university’s discretion.

Scholarship and program details

  • The full-tuition scholarships will be applied to recipients’ Capella accounts equal to the cost of tuition and Resource Kit** during the third week of each quarter or billing session, pending satisfaction of agreed-upon terms in award agreement. The full-tuition scholarships will be awarded up to the maximum time to completion for each recipients’ program (2.01.02 Maximum Time to Degree Completion).
  • The scholarship can only be applied to a master’s or doctoral program offered in the GuidedPath or FlexPath learning format.
  • Recipients who change to an ineligible program, graduate, are dismissed from the university or are inactive from the university for four consecutive quarters or billing sessions for any reason will have all future disbursements canceled.
  • GuidedPath recipients who do not remain enrolled through the first two weeks of the quarter will forfeit the award for that quarter. FlexPath recipients who do not remain enrolled through the first two weeks of the billing session will forfeit the award for that billing session.
  • Under no circumstances will recipients be eligible for cash payment or other compensation for the value of the scholarship or any unused disbursements.
  • Recipients of this scholarship are not eligible for other Capella grants, scholarships or discounts.
  • The scholarship may decrease the amount of funding that can be offered from other sources, such as federal financial aid.
  • The scholarship is intended to address the cost of attendance including, but not limited to, tuition.
  • Recipients of the scholarship must read and agree to terms presented in the award agreement prior to receiving scholarship funds.
  • The scholarship may not be used by the same recipient for more than one degree program.
  • To be considered a former student reapplying to the university and eligible for this offer, the student must not be currently enrolled in the university when reapplying, and must meet one of the following four criteria: 
    • Graduate of a Capella certificate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree program in the GuidedPath or FlexPath learning format.
    • Inactive from the university for at least four consecutive quarters.
    • Program of prior admittance to the university has been restaged or retired.
    • Applying to a program at a different degree level than program of prior admittance.

Faculty and staff of Capella University, Strategic Education, Inc., and Strategic Education, Inc.’s subsidiaries and affiliates, as well as their spouses, domestic partners and dependent children, are not eligible for the scholarship.

The terms and conditions of all scholarships and each subsequent renewal are subject to change and will be governed by the university’s scholarship policies. Capella University reserves the right to cancel or modify any scholarship funded by the university at any time.

**The scholarship is intended to address the cost of attendance, including but not limited to tuition and resource kit fees, which cover required course materials. Additional books, course materials, supplies, equipment and other fees may apply. Travel expenses for residencies, practicum, etc., are not covered by the scholarship.
