Understanding professional licensure

It is important to understand all educational and individual requirements for licensing. Capella University cannot guarantee licensure, certification or endorsement. State regulations vary regarding professional licensure. It is your responsibility to understand and comply with requirements for your state. Here are some resources to help you start your research:

Features of our BSN (Prelicensure) program:

  • Designed to prepare students for a license as a registered nurse
  • 180 quarter credits
  • 550 hours of clinicals and practicum
  • Approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing
  • The baccalaureate degree program in nursing, master’s degree program in nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice program and post-graduate APRN certificate program at Capella University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education http://www.ccneaccreditation.org.

Professional licensure disclosures

Per 34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v) – General Disclosures, an institution must provide disclosures if: a program is “designed” to meet the educational requirements for a specific professional license or certification required for an occupation; or advertised as being a program that meets professional licensure educational requirements in a state for that specific occupation. The institution is required to disclose, for each state, whether the program did or did not meet the educational requirements for that state.
