Doctor of Social Work

Pursue your passion for helping others and position yourself for educational and advanced practitioner opportunities with a Doctor of Social Work from Capella. Designed to meet guidelines established by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the competency-based curriculum will equip you with the leadership skills to advocate for social justice, improve communities and promote sustainable change in social services. Two intensive virtual residencies give you an opportunity to examine current issues impacting the field while working with your peers. You’ll also conduct either an action research study or program evaluation and learn to use technology to help advance practice in social work.

Scholarly study with real-world application

Under the guidance of our scholar-practitioner faculty and a one-on-one academic coach, you’ll learn to leverage literature review and implementation planning to address challenges in the field of social work.

Doctoral seminar and capstone

Your doctoral seminar offers the opportunity to select your capstone topic, a culminating project using applied research to solve a real-world social work problem. You’ll also develop your project plan, methodology, and theoretical application.
