Pursue your passion for helping others and position yourself for educational and advanced practitioner opportunities with a Doctor of Social Work from Capella. Designed to meet guidelines established by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the competency-based curriculum will equip you with the leadership skills to advocate for social justice, improve communities and promote sustainable change in social services. Two intensive virtual residencies give you an opportunity to examine current issues impacting the field while working with your peers. You’ll also conduct either an action research study or program evaluation and learn to use technology to help advance practice in social work.

What are the DSW admission requirements?
Applicants must provide the following information for admission to Capella programs and specializations:
- A master’s degree in social work from an institution accredited by the CSWE.
- Your official master’s transcripts, with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
- A valid, government-issued form of photo identification
GRE and GMAT are not required for admission.
International Student Requirements
If you completed your most recent academic coursework, degree, or credential at an institution outside the United States, regardless of your citizenship or where you currently live, you are considered an international applicant.
In addition to the above admission requirements, you will need to submit these materials:
- Minimum score on acceptable test for proof of English proficiency
- Transcript evaluation
