Capella University is pleased to partner with the American Association for Men in Nursing (AAMN) to offer one full-tuition scholarship to help lower the cost of a nursing degree.

Emerging Leader Scholarship

Showcase your leadership skills and prepare for a rewarding career in the fast-paced, evolving field of nursing with a degree from Capella University. In partnership with AAMN, we are offering one full-tuition scholarship for one of the following programs:

  • DNP in the GuidedPath learning format
  • MSN in the FlexPath learning format*
  • BSN in the FlexPath learning format*

Applicants not awarded the full-tuition Emerging Leader Scholarship will receive one of the following: 

  • A $10,000 scholarship for a DNP program in the GuidedPath learning format
  • A 50% discount for the first billing session tuition for an MSN in the FlexPath learning format*
  • A 50% discount for the first billing session tuition for a BSN in the FlexPath learning format*

Eligibility requirements

Student criteria

Must be a new student (or former student reapplying to the university) accepted into and enrolled in an eligible program at Capella University in January, February, March, or April 2020.1

Academic standards

Adhere to all applicable Capella University policies, including but not limited to, good academic standing (3.01.04 Academic Standing) and good financial aid satisfactory academic progress (3.01.05 FASAP).

Those not awarded the full-tuition Emerging Leader Scholarship must be a new student accepted into and enrolled in an eligible degree program by April 13, 2020.

How to apply

Step 1

Use application fee waiver code AAMN19 to submit your Capella University admission application

When you submit the online admission application, you’ll be prompted to create a Capella account that will give you access to Campus, our online student center. Remember this information—you’ll need it to complete the scholarship application. Already applied? Skip this step.

Step 2

Submit the scholarship application form.

Using your Capella account login information, complete the Emerging Leader Scholarship application form on Campus, including your responses to the essay questions (250–300 words each). 

For the best experience, use Chrome or Firefox to access the scholarship application.

Step 3

Once you’re admitted to Capella, begin courses in January, February, March, or April 2020.

Scholarship details

The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. CT Monday, December 2, 2019. Applications received after this date will not be considered. The recipient of the full-tuition Emerging Leader Scholarship will be notified by Friday, January 3, 2020. Applicants not awarded the full-tuition Emerging Leader Scholarship will be notified in early January 2020.

  • The Capella Scholarship Committee will select the full-tuition Emerging Leader Scholarship recipient based on eligibility requirements and the content, clarity, and writing of the response to the essay questions. Scholarship criteria are subject to state and federal law and may be modified to comply with applicable laws.
  • The scholarship can only be applied to an eligible program.
  • The recipient of the full-tuition Emerging Leader Scholarship must be accepted into and enrolled in an eligible program by January, February, March, or April 2020.
  • Depending on the program, the full-tuition Emerging Leader Scholarship will be applied to the recipient’s Capella account equal to the cost of tuition and Resource Kit2 during the third week of each billing session or quarter, pending the satisfaction of agreed-upon terms in the award agreement:

              o  DNP—a maximum of seven years (84 months)
              o  MSN—a maximum of two years (24 months)
              o  BSN—a maximum of three years (36 months)

  • Recipients who do not remain continuously enrolled through the first two weeks of the billing session or quarter will forfeit the award for that billing session or quarter.
  • In some circumstances, Capella quarterly or FlexPath billing session tuition may be lower than a quarterly or billing session scholarship disbursement. In other cases, recipients may complete their programs before they receive all quarterly or billing session scholarship disbursements. Under no circumstances will recipients be eligible for cash payment or other compensation for the value of unused disbursements.
  • If the recipient changes to an ineligible program, graduates, discontinues or withdraws from Capella, all future disbursements will be canceled.
  • The recipient of this scholarship is not eligible for other Capella grants, scholarships, and discounts.
  • The scholarship may decrease the amount of funding that can be offered from other sources, such as federal financial aid.
  • The scholarship is intended to address the cost of attendance, including, but not limited to, tuition.
  • The scholarship may not be used by the same recipient for more than one degree program.
  • The recipient must read and agree to the terms presented in the award agreement prior to receiving scholarship funds.
  • Capella University and its affiliates (Strayer University, DevMountain, Hackbright Academy, and Strategic Education, Inc.), faculty and staff, their spouses, domestic partners, and dependent children are not eligible for the scholarship.
  • DNP applicants not awarded the full-tuition Emerging Leader Scholarship will have the $10,000 scholarship applied to your Capella account during the third week of the quarter, disbursed equally over five consecutive quarters ($2,000 per quarter), beginning the fifth quarter of your program, pending your satisfaction of eligibility requirements.
  • DNP applicants not awarded the full-tuition Emerging Leader Scholarship must successfully pass your first course upon the first attempt. Returning students must pass the first course taken upon readmission to Capella.
  • DNP applicants not awarded the full-tuition Emerging Leader Scholarship are not eligible for other Capella grants, scholarships, or discounts in excess of 15%.
  • BSN and MSN applicants not awarded the full-tuition Emerging Leader Scholarship will have the 50% discount for the first billing session tuition applied to each student's Capella account during the third week of the first billing session2, pending the satisfaction of eligibility requirements. Following the first session, standard tuition and fees apply.
