A guide to student support and community at Capella

August 2, 2016

At Capella University, you earn your degree online instead of in a classroom, but your journey is far from solitary.

Support services and community interaction are available in many ways, shapes, and forms to help you along the way. Here’s a quick overview of a few staff-provided and community-based support resources available.

Enrollment counselors

Starting a program can be daunting, but Capella enrollment counselors are available to help you every step of the way—from helping you decide what program is best suited to your goals to guiding you through the application process and starting you on your journey.

Financial aid counselors

Capella can help you explore options for financing your education — including federal and non-federal loans, grants and scholarships, and employee tuition reimbursement.

Academic coaches

Once enrolled, you’ll be assigned to an academic coach to support you during your first year at Capella (and a program advisor after that). Your coach will assist you with scheduling, answer questions about your academic challenges, and help you stay on track to meet your goals.

Faculty

Capella faculty members hold top academic credentials and are experienced leaders in their fields. They’re also committed to seeing you reach your goals, so they welcome your questions and typically respond within 24 hours.

Career Center

Students and graduates enjoy free access to the Career Center for advice, information, and support.

Capella groups/clubs (through iGuide)

Once enrolled at Capella, you’ll have access to the student portal: Campus iGuide. In addition to being the go-to place for lessons and assignments, you’ll have access to iGuide groups and clubs. These communities provide a place outside of the courseroom to discuss topics such as coursework, research, job opportunities, industry topics, and other general interests.

Disability services

A specialized team of advisors and accessibility specialists helps Capella provide access, accommodations, and advocacy to students with disabilities so they may achieve their full academic potential.

Doctoral support

Doctoral students get a special team of advisors who are especially helpful during the dissertation process. And many graduate-level students participate in residency, an in-person learning experience.

Facebook community

Capella’s private Facebook community is a great place for prospective students, current students, and alumni to connect and share their Capella experiences.

Library and writing support

Need help finding resources or honing your writing skills for a paper or other coursework? The Capella Library and Writing Center are here to help.

LinkedIn groups

In addition to the official Capella University LinkedIn page, a variety of subgroups are available for professionals, including:

Military support

Capella provides support and resources to students who are veterans, active duty service members, Department of Defense employees, and their immediate family members.

Tech support

As an enrolled student, you will have 24/7 access to technical support via phone, chat, and email.

This list is by no means comprehensive. Learn more about Capella’s support services.
