IT4803 Core System Assurance Security 6 quarter credits Students gain an overview of information assurance and security topics for network administrators who must implement security strategies to protect their organization from exposure to the Internet, Artificial Intelligence, cloud, and machine learning. Students also create security-conscious designs. Students identify and apply strategies to safeguard against hackers and forms of viruses, use firewalls and gateways, and build authentication skills and encryption techniques. Students identify methods for attacking a network system and validate defenses against them. Students prepare for the Security+ certification. IT2280 Core Network Technology and Architecture 6 quarter credits Students gain an understanding of the key concepts underlying Local Area Network (LAN), Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), and Wide Area Network (WAN). Students examine the layered architecture of the network protocol stack, including the OSI and the TCP/IP models, and apply the principles of designing networks and implementing network protocols. Students also apply topics of network topologies, cloud computing, networking devices, cabling, and basic network security. Students create well-structured web pages using HTML and then style and lay them out using up-to-date cascading style sheets (CSS). Students build the content for a small website that demonstrates fundamental structures, effective layout, and basic interactivity. IT1170 Core Goals and Ethics for the IT Professional 6 quarter credits Students analyze core enterprise organizations, business processes, and information technology infrastructures. Students apply their knowledge of the relationships between an enterprise organization's business and information technology goals with IT operational models. IT ethical principles integrated throughout the class include examination of IT codes of ethics, ethical issues involving the use of employer resources, and examination of web technology and cybercrime. IT3249 Core Principles of Software Architecture 6 quarter credits Students analyze the fundamentals of software architecture and the architectural thinking needed to design modern applications. Students investigate core architectural styles, including microservices, layered, event-driven, and pipeline. Students also evaluate trade-offs between architectural styles, practice modeling systems, identify architectural characteristics, and analyze risk. Additionally, students develop skills to document their design decisions and communicate architectural choices clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. IT4775 Specialization Course Internet of Things Fundamentals 6 quarter credits Students investigate the Internet of Things (IoT) field of study and the related hardware and software connections. In addition to defining the infrastructure requirements for the deployment and operation of IoT devices, students work through the identification, installation, and operation of the various devices that are required to operate IoT and generate reporting. Students also develop applications that enter data from IoT, report them and contribute to making decisions as a result. The course covers in detail privacy and security issues that emerge from the use of IoT devices and the data that results from their operations.
