Capella’s online learning resources to support your academics

Capella University offers a wide range of academic support services to help students progress in their online courses, research and career development. Many of these resources are available 24/7 through the online portal Campus.

Capella’s version of a student center, the online portal Campus, serves as a central hub for coursework, resources and communication. In Campus, students can register for courses, apply for financial assistance, view an unofficial transcript and access a variety of university services.   

Help with writing, research and math

Online Writing Center. This online resource provides tools to develop and polish writing skills. Students will find workshops and a writing studio with regular office hours to ask questions and receive guidance.  

Library. Capella’s online library provides access to thousands of full-text articles, citations, abstracts, technical reports and e-books. Trained librarians are available to help with research for coursework, papers and presentations. Students can also request materials from university libraries nationwide through interlibrary loan.

Math, Statistics and Research Skills Center. Students can get support in various statistical concepts and topics as well as research methodology and design principles.

Personalized coaches for academic and professional growth

Academic coaches and program advisors. Coaches and advisors are available to answer questions and provide support on scheduling, study strategies and academic challenges.

Doctoral support advisors. Doctoral students have access to a team of advisors to help them through the program, including advising on the dissertation stage.

FlexPath coaches and tutors. Coaches are the primary contact for Capella students in the self-paced online format, answering questions and helping create and adjust the academic plan. Tutors are subject matter experts and available to answer any course content-related questions for FlexPath students.

Career Development Center. This center offers one-on-one coaching, resume and interview preparation and job-search strategies. Resources and workshops are available to help students and graduates at every stage of their professional journey.

Apps and tools to keep online students on track

In addition to the academic resources offered by Capella University, students can access many widely available online tools and apps* to help them organize research, manage citations and improve writing. Here are some options grouped by purpose, so you can find what fits your workflow best.

Research and note-taking

Notion. A versatile “workspace” tool that you can use to organize courses, notes, deadlines and project workflows. It supports templates, databases, calendar views and collaboration features. Notion offers education plans for students and educators.

Evernote. A solid tool for clipping web pages and storing notes, this service allows you to amass research you’ve accumulated online into a central holding spot and sync the information across multiple devices.

Microsoft OneNote. Included with most Office 365 subscriptions, OneNote integrates easily with Word and Outlook, making it ideal if you’re already using Microsoft tools.

Obsidian. A powerful note-taking app that helps you organize your ideas and research in one place. You can link related notes, visualize connections between topics and build a personalized knowledge base to support your coursework and projects.

Writing and editing support

Grammarly. Checks grammar and style and offers suggestions for clarity, tone and conciseness across browsers and with Microsoft Word and Outlook.

ProWritingAid. This comprehensive writing tool provides in-depth reports on readability, sentence variety and word choice. It also offers personalized suggestions to improve academic and professional writing.

LanguageTool. This AI-powered grammar checker supports more than 20 languages. It helps multilingual writers catch grammar and spelling errors and improve clarity in their preferred language.

Citation and reference management

Mendeley. This resource will help you properly cite your written works in whichever style guide you need as well as correctly format text and bibliographies.

Zotero. This online tool allows you to collect, organize, cite and share your research and resources.
